INSURANCE BENEFITS
Life Insurance
Group life insurance coverage is provided and paid for by Methodist Children's Home for all active full-time employees after six months of continuous service. The coverage is through Jefferson Pilot Financial. Coverage is based on two times the annual earnings rounded to the next higher $1,000, subject to a maximum of $250,000.
Accidental Death and Dismemberment Insurance
Accidental death and dismemberment coverage is provided and paid for by Methodist Children's Home for all active full-time employees after six months of continuous service. This coverage is through Jefferson Pilot Financial and pays twice the annual earnings rounded to the next higher $1,000 in the event of accidental death. A cash benefit will be paid for certain losses not resulting in death.
Long Term Disability
Long term disability coverage is provided and paid for by Methodist Children's Home for all active full-time employees after six months of continuous service. This coverage is through Jefferson Pilot Financial. The plan pays the employee when the employee has an accident or injury which prevents the employee from performing the duties of his/her job. The plan pays the employee as long as the employee is disabled, until age 65 if disabled at an age less than 60 or on a decreasing duration if disabled after age 60. The payment is 60% of the employee's basic monthly earnings to a max of $6,000.
Medical Coverage/Dental/Eye Care
Medical and eye care coverage is provided and paid for by Methodist Children's Home for all active full-time employees on the first of the month following 90 days of continuous service. This coverage is through Scott & White Health Plan. Dental coverage is offered through MetLife. A detailed summary of benefits is provided for the employee in the Human Resources Department. The premium is paid by the Home, with the exception of a small employee contribution based on 1% of the employee's monthly salary.
OTHER BENEFITS
Retirement Plan
After completion of one year of service with Methodist Children's Home, an employee may join the retirement plan provided by the Home. Detailed information concerning the retirement plan is available in the Finance Department. A brief summary of the retirement plan is provided for the employee in the Human Resources Department.
Professional Memberships
After completion of six months service, Methodist Children's Home will pay for membership in one professional organization related to the employee's job. The Controller or Vice President-Human Resources must approve exceptions.
Educational Assistance Program for Employees (EAPE)
An educational assistance program is available to assist an employee with educational academic expenses. Methodist Children's Home recognizes the need to keep and develop quality staff, and to prepare qualified staff to assume additional job and leadership responsibilities. The program is available to all full-time employees with a minimum of one year service, acceptable performance review and recommendation by his/her direct supervisor. Detailed information regarding the program is provided for the employee in the Human Resources Department.
Academic Stipend Program
The purpose of the academic stipend program is to encourage bachelor degreed employees to seek an advanced degree in order to facilitate promotable opportunities for the employee and a higher level of expertise and enhanced (improved) tenure for the Home. Procedure for applying for the program is provided for the employee in the Human Resources Department.
Vacation
Paid vacations are provided for all employees who work a minimum of 20 hours per week and have completed one year of continuous service.
Regular full-time employees qualify for two weeks (10 days) vacation each year after their employment anniversary. Regular part-time employees are paid vacation on a pro-rated basis.
Some employees are granted an additional two weeks vacation each year for a total of four weeks (20 days) due to their job responsibility.
After six months of employment, all employees eligible to earn vacation will have the option of taking one-half the vacation for which they would earn after completion of one year of service. Eligible employees must take the borrowed vacation in 5 or 10 day increments (4 or 8 day increments for Youth Care Workers because of their work schedule). The remaining vacation can only be taken after the employee's one year anniversary. Advance vacation is granted during the first year of employment only.
If an employee terminates before his/her first year anniversary, he/she must reimburse Methodist Children's Home for the vacation time taken in advance.
In recognition of continuous service to the Home, upon completion of 5 years service, the employee becomes eligible for three weeks (15 days) paid vacation. Upon completion of ten years of continuous service the employee becomes eligible for four weeks (20 days) paid vacation. For those employees already receiving four weeks vacation because of their job category, upon completion of ten years of continuous service, five weeks (25 days) of paid vacation is earned.
Paid Holidays
Methodist Children's Home considers the following days regular holidays for all employees: July 4th, Labor Day, Thanksgiving Day, Christmas, New Year's Day. For those employees who are receiving the regular two weeks vacation and are not receiving additional vacation because of their job category, two additional holidays are granted. These are: The day after Thanksgiving and Memorial Day. These employees are also eligible for two floating holidays per calendar year, to be taken at the convenience of the employee if the needs of the departments permit. Due to scheduling, Youth Care Counselors will receive an additional floating holiday for a total of three floating holidays instead of the day after Thanksgiving.
Sick Leave
Sick leave hours are accumulated on a bi-weekly basis and may be used for illnesses of the employee, his/her spouse or dependent children residing in the same household. Employees are encouraged to accumulate as many hours as possible to help eliminate financial strains in the event of serious or lengthy illnesses.
Sick leave hours may accumulate to a total of 66 days (528 hours) at 3.70 hours per pay period.
Sick leave hours start accumulating after six months of service.
Sick leave hours may be used beginning the first day of an illness.
The department head or Vice President-Human Resources may require a doctor's statement before an employee returns to work from an illness.
A supervisor may instruct an employee to leave work if the supervisor feels the employee's work efficiency is affected by the illness.
Christmas Bonus
When approved by the Board of Directors, Methodist Children's Home pays a Christmas Bonus based on the employee's salary and years of service.
Workers' Compensation
Methodist Children's Home contributes 100% of the premium toward the employees workers' compensation insurance. Should the employee become injured while on duty, workers' compensation insurance covers the employee during the time off due to the injury after seven days. Salary, during disability, is determined by the Workers' Compensation Act approved into law by the State of Texas.
Funeral Leave
Methodist Children's Home grants funeral leave to all regular employees which is intended to allow the employee to attend the funeral without loss of wages. The number of days off is determined by the degree of relationship to the employee and the location of the funeral. Normal funeral leave consists of one day to three days for an immediate family member. Additional days off without pay or vacation/float holiday time may be used but must be approved by the Department Vice President, Campus Administrator, Vice President-Human Resources or Methodist Children's Home President. (Sick time may not be used for funeral leave.)
Jury Duty
Methodist Children's Home grants leave for jury duty to all regular employees which is intended to allow the employee to fulfill the jury duty commitment without loss of wages.
Coffee/Comfort Breaks
When possible, departments establish breaks for the employees. This allows employees no more than two fifteen minutes breaks during the day. Comfort breaks are taken as needed.
Credit Union Membership
Methodist Children's Home is a member of Educator's Credit Union and all employees are eligible to participate in the Educator's Credit Union programs.
Youth Care Worker/Counselor Training
Youth Care Workers/Counselors participate in the first year basic child care training courses taught by McLennan Community College. The cost is paid by Methodist Children's Home. Additional college courses which lead to an Associates Degree in Child Care are available through McLennan Community College. Youth Care Workers are encouraged to attend.
In-service training programs are held during the year, including Willson-Johnson Lectures. Staff are expected to participate in these opportunities. On-the-job training is provided by supervisory staff when needed.
Other job-related training courses will be reimbursed with approval of the Vice President-Child Care after successful completion of pre-approved courses.
