EDUCATIONAL SERVICES
University of Texas Charter School
In an effort to better meet the educational needs of students, MCH joined the University of Texas - University Charter School in the summer of 2003.
All residents in the structured program - and some basic care residents who need a small-school environment - attend the Charter School. Due to academic and behavioral needs, these students require more flexibility and individual attention than public school systems offer. Enhanced staffing, a 6:1 student/caregiver ratio, positive behavior management and the various academic options available through the school are key factors for residents who achieve academic success and personal growth through the MCH program. The school offers a diverse academic curriculum for 6th through 12th grades. The charter school is currently rated Academically Acceptable.
As part of its affiliation with the University of Texas - University Charter School System, the Methodist Children's Home Campus must meet rigorous academic standards and accountability assessments established by the Texas Education Agency (TEA).

Public School
Every year, residents of Methodist Children's Home make a significant impact in public schools. About one-half of the Home's 180 residents on its main campus attend Waco schools, where many excel academically and in extracurricular activities. A majority of MCH residents who attend public schools consistently earn recognition on the academic honor roll and many achieve success in school-related activities. Students have recently been recognized for excellence in theatre, science, poetry, history, athletics and drill team, among other subjects and activities. Residents also serve in leadership positions in clubs and organizations, including the National Honor Society.
Residents receive regular education services, including advanced courses for gifted and talented students, a wide array of electives, dual credit courses at local colleges, work labs for students who are credit deficient, tutoring and testing services.
In addition to support provided by Waco ISD, MCH staff provides educational services on campus to support the efforts of public schools. Weekly tutorials, ranging from math to English as a Second Language (ESL), ensure residents have every opportunity to succeed academically. In addition, social workers and homeparents provide valuable support and encouragement as residents pursue their educational and career plans.
