FROM THE PRESIDENT
On Easter Sunday, about 200 former residents of Methodist Children’s Home gathered for a time of worship and celebration for the new life we can receive through a personal
relationship with God’s Son, Jesus. This is always a special time for our alumni, who return to campus for Homecoming weekend.
Our alumni look forward all year to this reunion, which provides opportunities to renew old friendships and share memories of their days at Methodist Children’s Home. For many of them, the Easter service is the highlight of the weekend, as they sit in the same pews in Harrell Memorial Chapel where, in many cases, they first learned of God’s love as young children. As they walk through the front door, their attention is quickly drawn to the large stained-glass window of Jesus holding a lamb. The message communicated through this beautiful window is one of love, comfort, peace, strength and protection.
The young people in our care need to experience this message on a daily basis. I am blessed to serve in a faith-based Christian ministry that communicates the importance of God’s love to children and youth who are desperately searching for a source of hope in their lives. In addition to meeting their physical, emotional and educational needs, we are called to provide for their spiritual needs. This is, indeed, a High Calling.
Last January, I had the privilege of participating in a panel discussion with fellow administrators at other Christian child care ministries in Texas. As we each shared about our mission to serve at-risk children and youth, I was reminded of the message of hope that is offered every day to children through ministries like Methodist Children’s Home, Children at Heart Ministries, Presbyterian Children’s Home, Ben Richey Boys Ranch, Boles Children’s Home and others.
Thank you for partnering with Methodist Children’s Home as we work together to share God’s love with children throughout Texas and New Mexico. We are blessed by your prayers, words of encouragement and financial support as we seek to fulfill our mission to offer hope to children, youth and families through a nurturing, Christian community.
For His Children,
Bobby Gilliam
