Bobby Gilliam receives national
CORE award for service to
residential child care
Bobby Gilliam, president of Methodist Children's Home, received the "Administrator of the Year" award from the Coalition for Residential Education (CORE) during its national conference in Washington, D.C. March 26-28.
CORE is a national non-profit organization of residential education programs for economically and socially disadvantaged youth at children's homes and boarding schools. CORE membership represents 16 states.
Gilliam is a member of the CORE Board of Directors and co-founded the organization's national standards for residential excellence.
"Bobby has made such a difference, not only to the programs he has worked in and to Methodist Children's Home, but also to the developing field of residential education," said Heidi Goldsmith, founder and executive director of CORE. "His work with our national standards will undoubtedly improve the quality and strengthen the perception of residential programs nationwide. He has become a pillar of the residential education community in the United States."
Goldsmith values Gilliam's contributions to residential education as a member of the CORE board.
"He always makes us remember why we do what we do - it is the kids," she said.
Gilliam has served as president and chief executive officer of MCH since March 2003. He has spent the majority of his more than 30 years in residential child care at MCH.
